Who are these people?

Here's a snapshot of the talk I usually have with my conscience

I admire and respect the Armed forces of India. (Me)
Whats so great in it...almost everybody does. (My Conscience)
True...but not everyone is exactly aware of the hardships and risks involved in defending the borders
Haha ..even you have not experienced it first hand
Again true...but I make every effort to understand it from those who have endured such hardships... and then I try to sensitise people around me about what it takes to be a soldier
Buddy...you are taking yourself too seriously...dont think that people dont know... dont underestimate their patriotism
No am not underestimating their patriotism...only enhancing their awareness about these topics which are extremely important and we all should have atleast basic knowledge and respect about what it takes to defend this nation
Whats so important about defence matters? this geopolitical gibberish, arms and ammunitions, border terrain, training of armed forces?? Why is everyone required to know about these things..it doesnt matter in daily life?
Thats the irony...while the armed forces are vigilant every moment of every day of every year for the existence of this nation... not many of us even think once about them except certain national holidays or on dates like 26/11 or worst during wars like the one in 99. I intend to insert a tiny blinker in the conscience of those around me that would remind them of THE JAWAN..... He is your nation's Fighting Man that has kept this country free and defended your right to Freedom. He has experienced deprivation and adversity, and has seen his buddies falling to bullets and maimed and blown. He has guarded us standing in -60 deg C in Bilafond La (Siachen Glacier), he has endured the confinement and stink in the cramped INS Sindhushastra (the Kilo class submarine)somewhere deep in the Indian Ocean to keep our sea lanes safe, he endures extreme G forces to manouvre his MiG 21 and shoot down the intruder in our airspace. He has earned our respect and admiration with his blood.

At this point I decide to send one more sms or mail to my contacts group about a new milestone achieved by LCA, new military procurement cleared by the cabinet, one more "most wanted" terrorist shot dead by the army, the story of bravery and martyrdom of one of our soldier or story of despair of the close kins of the bravest sons of the motherland who laid thier lives ... not often do i get any response...and honestly that hurts....i think why do i do this? people dont even bother...But thats exactly where the whole dialogue between me and myself starts all over again ...and thus i move on to the next SMS

Whats in the name

Frankly I was thinking of some funky name for my blog... did some permutation combinations ... googled a bit... but then some thing within me said "STOP" ... the title must represent myself in someway..so no plagiarism.... OK ..how about "consultant" (free advices anytime), "Radome, Rudder"(after my aircraft love), Geography??...something .ehmmm..why not Penumbra??? I just love this word..the way it sounds..and ofcourse it was part of my Geography curriculum...my favourite subject alongwith History. And most importantly ... it reminds me of my father ..my Dada. He taught me Geography.

So Penumbra it is .... Dictionary defines it as " A partial shadow, as in an eclipse, between regions of complete shadow and complete illumination"

Isnt it the state in which we all are most of the time?? Neither in totally dark .. nor totally illuminated?

Anyways I would keep it simple. Welcome to the GREY AREA !
